Why PangeaBed Is the Healthiest Mattress on the Market

When shopping for a mattress, "healthy" isn't typically the first word you'd likely use to describe your ideal bed. You're probably searching for one that's extra-comfy, or supportive, to get your best sleep. Yet finding a mattress that's healthy should be a top priority.

The PangeaBed copper-infused mattress is built with your health in mind. We've sourced the cleanest and healthiest materials, from the fibers comprising its various layers down to even the type of glue used. This has resulted in the absolute healthiest mattress on the market.

How Your Mattress Affects Your Health (and How PangeaBed Helps)

There are many ways your mattress can negatively impact your health—from bacteria to (gasp) toxic chemicals. At PangeaBed, we took our time researching all the different ways that a mattress can affect your health. All this knowledge inspired the meticulously selection of the exact components, with the combined goal of building a mattress that not only delivers the best night's sleep, but is actually beneficial to your health.

Dust Mites

Yup, these microscopic creatures live in your mattress and feed on your dead skin cells. (Yuck!) According to the nonprofit American Lung Association, four out of five homes in the United States have at least one bed infested with dust mites. These tiny buggers excrete a protein that is an allergen and can cause allergic reactions, such as sneezing, a stuffy or runny nose, or itchy, watery and red eyes. Dust mites are a common cause of asthma in children, and even if you aren't allergic to dust mite feces, these unwelcome critters may still aggravate you.

Our mattress is made with a top layer of 100% pure Talalay latex. This is naturally dust mite-resistant, and may prevent them from feeding and reproducing within the mattress. It's also naturally hypoallergenic, since it undergoes an environmentally friendly, five-stage freshwater washing process, in which water jets wash away residual soaps, curing agents and proteins that can irritate allergies.

On average, a mattress that's less than a year old has 3,000,000 colony-forming units of bacteria living in it, and a mattress seven years old contains more than 16,000,000. These pathogens can cause infections, fever and other adverse health conditions.

We infuse our layer of Talalay latex with copper, an extraordinary element that's naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial—so it inhibits the growth of harmful microorganisms to deliver a cleaner, and healthier sleep.

Mold & Fungi

Humans naturally produce 26 gallons of sweat annually within their mattress. When all this moisture combines with body heat, it creates an ideal environment for fungi to grow. Together with mold, this can cause serious allergic reactions.

Naturally antifungal, copper is infused into naturally mold and mildew-resistant Talalay latex in our mattress, creating a protective barrier for mold and fungi, and helping to provide a healthy slumber.

Hidden Chemicals

Your mattress can be concealing various toxic chemicals that can negatively affect your health, too. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PBDEs, are flame retardants sometimes used within mattresses. These may disrupt human thyroid hormone functioning and cause other negative health effects. Synthetic materials, such as synthetic latex, are made of chemicals that affect the central nervous system, and may also cause headache, fatigue, weakness, depression and hearing loss. Bottom line: You definitely don't want these within your mattress.

The Talalay latex we incorporate into our mattress is 100% natural, and made from the sap of a rubber tree. It's also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, which guarantees your mattress contains no harmful chemicals in its outer fabric, sewing threads, inserts, zip fasteners or rivets. You can find a complete list of what is tested here.

Each layer of memory foam within our mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, indicating it is healthy and made without:

  • Ozone depleters
  • PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
  • Mercury, lead and other heavy metals
  • Formaldehyde
  • Phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)

This distinction also ensures the mattress contains low VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions for indoor air quality.

Back Pain

Maintaining the proper alignment of your spine and back is a critical component to ensure overall optimal health, too! Over time, your mattress loses this vital support, which can lead to chronic back pain in the future, and other related issues that can negatively impact your everyday life.

Our mattress possesses three unique layers that work together to provide uplifting support for back, stomach and side sleepers, alike. This keeps your spine in its natural alignment, and helps alleviate any pain you may be experiencing from sleeping on an old mattress. Most importantly, these materials are durable, and work to provide you with this crucial support, for years to come!
